Orange Shirt Day
Orange Shirt Day is on September 30, and commemorates the story of Phyllis who had her brand new orange shirt taken away on her first day of residential school. It is a day to reflect on the past and work towards reconciliation and hope for a better future.
Attached is some information that could be shared with primary students to help them better understand the significance behind Orange Shirt Day.
Inside your school's Diversity Book Bin you will find copies of the books Shi-shi-etko and Shin-chi's Canoe, as well as accompanying lesson plans. Lesson plan activities for these books are also located under the DEHR book bin resources tab on this website. Below are links to watch YouTube videos of these two books.
